BASIC SECURITY TRAINING

DESCRIPTION:

Basic Security Training is a Justice Institute of B.C. course which teaches participants the basic skills and knowledge required by security employees in B.C. The course is designed to satisfy the mandatory training requirements approved by the Registrar of Security Programs Division. It provides students with the theoretical skills to obtain certification for licensing in the private security industry in BC.


ADVANCED SECURITY TRAINING

DESCRIPTION:

Advanced Security Training is for Security Personnel authorized to use a restraining device (Handcuffs). It addresses the continuum use of force, from communication, to physical control tactics, restraint tactics and pressure point control.


CANADIAN FIREARMS SAFETY COURSE(PAL)

DESCRIPTION:

The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) was developed in partnership with the provinces and territories, national organizations with an ongoing interest in firearms safety, as well as many firearms and hunter education courses from across Canada. This course was developed to meet the mandatory requirements set out in Subsection 106(2)(c)(i) of The Criminal Code of Canada and came into effect January 1, 1994.


BYLAW OFFICERS 1

DESCRIPTION:

This course teaches participants relevant legislation, tactical communication skills, use of force issues, investigational procedures and liabilities required in the execution of their duties as a bylaw enforcement officer.


BYLAW OFFICERS 2

DESCRIPTION:

This course builds upon the skills taught in the Bylaw Officers 1 course. It teaches students how to utilize digital cameras to produce photographs during investigations, complete the appropriate forms for giving evidence in court, gives more insight into the framework of local government and bylaws, conflict resolution, personal safety. Students will finally present "their case" in a mock trial.


PRIVATE INVESTIGATION

DESCRIPTION:

This course teaches students the essential skills to enter the field of Private Investigation.

Students will understand the requirements demanded of Private Investigators with respect to surveillance activities, skip tracing, interviewing and taking statements and in the event of legal proceedings, the gathering, presentation and admissibility of evidence.

LOSS PREVENTION

DESCRIPTION:

The Loss Prevention course explains the areas where losses occur and the prevention strategies, as well as Powers of Arrest, Requirements of a Legal Arrest, Suspect's Rights, Charter and Caution, Reports and Documentation and Attending Court and Giving Evidence.
